Things to Do Near Lingwood: A Local Area Guide

Discover what to see and do near Lingwood, Norfolk — from riverside walks and village pubs to nearby market towns, nature reserves, and family attractions.

View across the Norfolk countryside near Lingwood village

Lingwood is a peaceful village in the Broadland district of Norfolk, roughly 8 miles east of Norwich. While it may feel tucked away, the surrounding area is rich with history, wildlife, and easy day-trip options. Whether you are visiting for a weekend or a longer self-catering break, here is what the area has to offer.

The Village Itself

Lingwood has a relaxed, unhurried feel. St Peter's Church dates mainly to the 14th century and contains a medieval wall painting of St Christopher, uncovered in 1965 during restoration work. The Kings Head on Station Road is a welcoming local pub serving food and drink, and there is a weekly Parkrun held at the village hall every Saturday morning at 9 am — a good way to start the weekend if you are a runner.

Lingwood also has its own train station on the Wherry Line, connecting the village directly to Norwich in around 15 minutes and to Great Yarmouth in the other direction. It is a genuinely useful link if you prefer not to drive.

Brundall and the River Yare

The neighbouring village of Brundall is less than 3 miles away and sits right on the River Yare. You can hire day boats here and set off along the Broads waterways at your own pace. Brundall also has a small marina area with riverside walks that are pleasant in any season. The Yare Valley is excellent for quiet cycling and walking.

Strumpshaw Fen

RSPB Strumpshaw Fen is one of the closest nature reserves, just a short drive south. This is one of the best birdwatching sites in East Anglia, with reedbeds, woodlands, and meadows home to bitterns, marsh harriers, kingfishers, and swallowtail butterflies in summer. There are several walking trails and hides. Note that dogs (other than assistance dogs) are not permitted here due to sensitive habitats.

Wider Day Trips

Norwich city centre is about 20 minutes by car or a short train ride. Great Yarmouth and its beaches are roughly the same distance in the other direction. BeWILDerwood, the family treehouse adventure park near Hoveton, is around 30 minutes north. For National Trust fans, Blickling Estate and Felbrigg Hall are both within comfortable driving distance.

Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure in Lenwade is another popular family option, and Redwings Horse Sanctuary has a visitor centre at Caldecott near Fritton.

Staying at Church Farm Barns

Annapurna at Church Farm Barns makes a natural base for exploring this part of Norfolk. We are on a quiet lane with free parking, easy access to the A47 and the Broads, and within walking distance of Lingwood station. Whether you are here for a weekend break, a week exploring the Broads, or business travel near Norwich, the location connects you to everything listed above without being in the middle of it.
