Best Areas to Stay Near Norwich

Where should you stay near Norwich? A guide to the best areas for different types of visitor — from the Broads to the city centre and the A47 corridor.

Norfolk countryside near Norwich

Norwich is surrounded by villages, market towns, and countryside that each offer a different base for exploring Norfolk. Where you stay depends on why you are visiting.

Broadland Villages (East of Norwich)

Villages like Lingwood, Brundall, Blofield, and Acle sit east of Norwich along the A47 corridor. This area is ideal if you want to combine city access with the Norfolk Broads. Train connections run into Norwich in 15–20 minutes. The landscape is flat, open, and peaceful. Church Farm Barns in Lingwood is in this belt — close enough to Norwich for business or culture, close enough to the Broads for boating and wildlife.

Norwich City Centre

Best for visitors focused purely on the city — the cathedral, castle, restaurants, and nightlife. However, parking is expensive and limited, rooms are smaller for the price, and you miss the countryside that makes Norfolk distinctive.

North Norfolk Coast

Holkham, Wells-next-the-Sea, Blakeney, and Cromer are beautiful but 45–60 minutes from Norwich. Best for beach holidays and coastal walks, less practical for Norwich visits or Broads exploration.

South Norfolk

Loddon, Bungay, and the Waveney Valley are quieter and more remote. Good for total seclusion but further from Norwich and the main Broads waterways.

Our Recommendation

For most visitors, the Broadland villages east of Norwich offer the best balance. You get countryside peace, Broads access, easy Norwich connections, and affordable accommodation. Lingwood in particular has a train station, a pub, and sits right on the A47 — making it a practical base for almost any kind of Norfolk trip.
